shutdownday.org didn't shut down - no fair !!!

That's interesting ! Shutdownday.org didn't shut down today !

Not a good example to set for the 80,000 + people who said they'd shut down their computers.

It's a good thing blogger.com didn't shut down either. Or I wouldn't be able to sit here commenting on what a shame it is that shutdownday.org website didn't shut down !

"Practice what you preach", said somebody (who, I don't know - but somebody did). And the very website which started this campaign of shutting down other people's computers by a strange and complex manipulation of crowd mentality to supress the opinion of the individual and produce a peer pressure to act according to what the general public conciousness thinks is, let me say - quite interesting.
( I know the previous sentence is too long to be making any sense, but let me say the essense of what I mean is - mind control)

Yes, a massive attempt at world domination by controlling the minds of millions and millions of people (the world has more than 6 billion people right ?) to make them switch off their computers against their normal choices and thus take over the world !

So - mind control it is. The internet is like the matrix - all these humans plugged into the system and noone knows what is real.

What is real ?

If real is defined as the webpages coming through your browser with information you can choose to trust or not, as emails full of junk and spam telling you to provide your bank account number and credit card info, or messages coming across and IM, or files though FTP, then real is just electrical impulses passing through miles and kilometres of wires, optic fibre cables, even thin air.

They could be just fake - absolutely fake information. Spam emails from hackers and crackers. IM bots trying to chat you up - you can never be sure what the virtual reality is ...

Back to the shutdown day thingie ...

What do they say ?

Just popped out to the real world. Back in **** minutes.

Help make the next Shutdown Day even bigger !

Well, atleast they say it's for a good cause.
We've teamed up with the National Laptop Foundation, a new
non-profit organisation launching on World Earth Day, to help underprivileged
children, the elderly and schools and doctors in third world countries have
access to the internet, by recycling & refurbishing old unwanted &
broken computers. We want to raise $100,000 to help this cause and to start work
on the next Shutdown Day and organise events in cities around the world. Please
help be a part of this.

U decide. I'm not a part of this !

Boycott Global Shutdown Day !

boycott shutdown day don't shutdown

Dennis Bystrov and Michael Taylor from shutdownday.org

wanted to see how many people could go without computers for a day. And shut down their computers - finda alternative uses for their laptops (believe me - somebody wants to play basketball with their laptop - there's a video of it on youtube !)

See what a dude in Engadget has to say about shutdown day - that is today !

Hold on there, big guy. You want us to STOP using computers for a day? How about
we all decide to hold our breath for 24 hours, too? Yeah, that's right, we're
not giving up our gadgets for anyone. We know that some day our computers will
kill us (either by rising up against us or by getting us so sucked into a six
day-long WoW marathon that we forget to eat), but hey, you gotta die from
something right? At least we'll go out knowing we spent every waking moment
indoors doing something worthwhile like reading RSS feeds and downloading porn.
Those are truly the hallmarks of a life well-spent, wouldn't you agree? Anyway,
we're going to show the Blame Computers First crowd what's what and use our
computers TWICE as much on March 24th -- even if that means grabbing two
machines and then typing with our fingers and toes at the same time.

A few suggestions from the middle path :

(not my suggestions - just some that I found interesting. I don't endorse any view expressed here)

  • How about we meet halfway and put our computers on standby for 12 hours ?
  • If they have my favourite band playing that Saturday, I would support this initiative with my friends in the club and in the bar afterwards.Wait... I still need computer to buy tickets, print out directions and... nevermind
  • I don't see anything wrong with this. It's on a Saturday, so unless you're working you really have no reason not to at least give a halfhearted attempt to participate.Unless you live in some craphole like New York where there's nothing to do that isn't computer related.
  • I think we should all support this to our friends and relatives. And queue a LOAD of torrents the night before because that's going to be a good day for downloads.
  • Let's just kill off all our hospital patients who rely on monitoring and life support through computers as well.
  • I realize it's a Saturday and all, but do they just expect businesses to just come to a screeching halt or something? "I'm sorry, I can't check our inventory right now, I'm participting in Shutdown Day! Try back on Monday.""Oh, no, I can't take a credit card today. The company that validates them has decided to turn off all of their computers for a day."
  • so.... does my moto Q count or even an xbox360/PS3... cause those are nearly computers. so many items are in a grey area these days as to what they are, so how do you classify a computer anymore?

To search for downloadable music

type this {-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "www.fundazone.com"} in the search bar and replace www.fundazone.com with your favorite band, and you will only find open indexes that contain downloadable music files.
Cool tip. Try it. Hope it works for you ! It's such a weel known trick it seems, a dude has a huge web page dedicated to the technique.

Shutdown Day - Did u shut down ? March 24th

It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?

Thus says the message on shutdownday.org .

By the time a good number of people read this, it is already past shut down day. Because it's just 3 hours from now !

What is shutdown day ?

It's a day (March 24th, 2007) when a lot of people shut down their computers for 24 hours just to see if they can live without computers for a day.

And what is the response ?
A lot of people said they can - 54007 and a few said they cannot 8561 at about 3 hours from t-0

3 hours from blast off ! t - 180 minutes !

Did you shut down your computer ?

I'll try not to turn mine on ...

Invisible flexible battery - crazy or what ?

invisible flexible battery see through

Yes, it is. Definitely crazy ! But what stuff can you do with an invisible battery ?

Made in Waseda University by who some may descibe as mad scientists, this is cool but probably useless.Gizmag reported that researchers at the University have developed a so-called "organic radical" battery that's flexible and transparent. The battery apparently takes only one minute to charge and can last over 1,000 cycles.

With transparent circuits and OLEDs also already in the works, it seems like it's only a matter of time before all our gadgets are invisible. Think of it, bumping into your car which is invisible.

And what about an invisible cellphone ? But who would want an invisible ceelphone anyway - they're already too small to be visible.

Let's wait and see how this develops.

SpaceX Successfully Launches Falcon 1 Rocket

Excellent ! Now space is not just a government only area. Privately owned space exploration company SpaceX successfully launched its Falcon 1 rocket. The rocket was developed entirely by SpaceX without government funding or the related lack of government funding. According to company founder Elon Musk, who previously co-founded Zip2 and PayPal (wow, that's cool !), the Falcon 1’s success will drive the cost of space access down “ultimately by a factor of 10.”

Bob Woolmer passes away in Jamaica

Jamaica Bob Woolmer Kingston Interview

Robert Andrew Woolmer, (born May 14, 1948, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India - died March 18, 2007, Kingston, Jamaica), more commonly known as Bob Woolmer, was a professional cricket coach known for having coached the South African cricket team and Warwickshire. He was only the second non-Pakistani to coach the Pakistani cricket team, the first being Englishman Richard Pybus (1999-2000).

Bob Woolmer Pakistan cricket coach passes away Jamaica dies
He played English county cricket for Kent, initially as an all-rounder. He graduated to Test cricket with England in 1975 again, at first, as an all-rounder, having taken a hat-trick for MCC against the touring Australian cricket team with his fast-medium bowling. But he was dropped after his first Test, only reappearing in the final match of the series at The Oval where he scored 149, batting at number five, the slowest Test century ever for England against Australia. Further batting success followed over the next two seasons, including two further centuries against Australia, one in the Centenary Test.

But Woolmer's international career stalled after he joined the World Series Cricket break-away group run by Kerry Packer. Though he appeared intermittently in the Test team up to 1981, he never recaptured the form of the mid 1970s.

Woolmer was also a regular in England ODI cricket from 1972 to 1976.

He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1976.

Woolmer was found unconscious in his Hotel room in Kingston, Jamaica on the 18th March 2007 at the Cricket World Cup; he died in The University Hospital, Kingston later that day.

NASA Apollo moon hoax

moon landing hoax NASA Apollo 13

Did man land on the moon in July, 1969 ? Time :
4:17 pm July 20 EDT

Several theories have been put forward saying it's just an elaborate hoax. And NASA has strongly refuted such claims too. So, what is the truth ? Did man (or human being to be more politically correct) land on the moon ?

Did man land on the moon ? Was it just an elaborate hoax ? On July, 1969 at 4:17 pm July 20 EDT , Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin supposedly landed on the moon. But there are several conspiracy theories which say that all the moon landings were probably faked in Area 51 on Earth !!!

Here are the theories and evidences to get you going.

From http://www.weeklyuniverse.com/skies/skies2.htm
... The spacecraft should be able to take with itself a minimum weight of ~175 tons. No such spacecraft were developed before the flight to the Moon, none even close to that; today's most powerful spacecraft's weight carrying capabilities couldn't approach even the numbers thrice smaller than this. (For example, one of the most modern Russian carrier rockets, Titan-4, which is approximately equal to the Space Shuttle carrier rocket by its parameters, is able to carry only about 17.5 tons of weight.) ...
More at http://www.weeklyuniverse.com/skies/skies2.htm
But there are others who say that the hoax theory is a hoax :

Photography

Most of the theories that concern the photographs are due to a failure to understand how photography works.

Photographs are only two dimensional records of light falling on a chemically treated sheet of plastic. They can easily give a misleading picture of the nature of an unfamiliar three dimensional world, especially if have already decided what you want to see and have no understanding of photography's strengths and limitations.

Equipment

Millions, if not billions, of dollars were spent in equipping the Apollo missions. In order to successfully land on the moon, NASA needed to either buy in the absolute latest in technology, or develop it themselves. So it should come as no surprise that some of the equipment used was totally unheard of in the 1960s and, because it was designed to work in an alien environment, is still a novelty 30 years later. So most people don't have any experience of this equipment, or understand how it worked.

This lack of understanding is the source of many of the hoax theories. Rather than finding out how this equipment worked, many hoax proponents prefer to take a poor guess at how they think it might have worked, and then show how their own guess wouldn't work.

So why has NASA never been back in the last 30 years and why haven't the Russian's been ?

As the main driving force was political, once the first landings had been accomplished and the USSR soundly beaten, the government finance started to dry up. The Apollo missions were incredibly expensive and people were starting to wonder if it was worth it now we knew it was just a dry lifeless rock and that the Russians weren't in the running anymore. The USSR space program had hit a number of very explosive failures and weren't so keen to go either now. There's little glory in being second on the moon. Within a decade or so and the USSR had enough problems running the country and their nuclear reactors to even consider trips to the moon.

The military weren't so bothered either. The idea of some kind of missile base on the moon was never a consideration. By the time it took the missiles to reach Earth everything would be over anyway. What was much more practical was satellites, spy and otherwise, and any military developments could be achieved easier and cheaper in low orbit than on the moon anyway. So the military preferred the money to be spent on the Shuttles.

That just leaves scientific reasons. The scientists would love to go back to the moon as there's bound to be lots more to discover. Unfortunately the scientists aren't in charge of handing out the money. If you're American ('cos lets face it, they're the only ones who could afford it) and you want to go back to the moon, then tell your politicians that. They need convincing.

And NASA says :

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/TECH/space/02/19/nasa.moon/

The theorists point to supposed oddities in NASA moon shots to boost their claim. Among the most prominent: The U.S. flag should not be waving. Camera crosshairs should not be behind lunar features in the distance. Stars should be in the background.

Plait and other scientists dismiss such notions. Flags can ripple in a vacuum and the U.S. one is doing so because an astronaut is moving the pole to which it is attached.

Camera crosshairs appear to be behind white objects in some images because the images bled slightly during development, like overexposed film. And why are the stars absent? They are too faint for the camera to pick up, according to Plait.

"From the very first moment to the last, the program is loaded with bad thinking, ridiculous suppositions and utterly wrong science," he said.

NASA adds another line of defense. The program never raised the issue of more than 800 pounds (363 kg) of lunar rocks that astronauts brought back to Earth.

"Geologists worldwide have been examining these samples for 30 years, and the conclusion is inescapable. The rocks could not have been collected or manufactured on Earth," the NASA site said.

PFW.pif virus or worm or trojan pfw.exe

PFW.pif was a hidden file I first saw in a pen drive (also variously called flash drive to thumb drive to thumbnail drive)

Anyway the hidden file is labelled as an MSDOS shortcut but it is a trojan or worm or virus or whatever.

How does PFW .pif spread ?
It has an autorun.inf file also in the root folder of the pen drive.

How do you remove it ...

If you have AVG free edition 7.5 installed and have the latest virus definitions, it is more than enough.

I'm not sure about Norton but if it is not updated, I guarantee that it will NOT catch this virus.

Manually remove the virus if you can !

  1. Right click and Open Pen Drive (Autoplay will run the virus - Don't double click)
  2. Delete Pfw.pif and autorun.inf from the pen drive
  3. Press Alt-Ctrl-Del End PFW.pif
  4. Tools> Folder options> View hidden files
  5. Delete C:\windows\system32\pfw.exe (it's a hidden file)
  6. Registry Go to > HKCU>Sofrware>Microsoft>Windows>Current version>Explorer>Mountpoints2>(crazy names)>Shell>
    1. Make backup of registry
    2. Delete the Subkeys Shell which have Autoplay as default value (I'll explain this in detail later)
