Tin Man Syndrome - RadioPaedia X-ray and CT scan of Ectopia cordis interna : Age of Tin Man

There was a chest extra doing the rounds that showed no visible heart shadow. Here it is :

AP Chest Radiograph of Tin Man Syndrome

It was posted by Radiopaedia, the radiologist community website in April 2015. They even had lateral view X-ray and also had a CT scan of the abdomen to show that the heart was actually located in the abdomen.

Time's up - Reddit's mysterious button runs out on June 8

Reddit is a very popular social notworking website with quite an active community. Redditors are known to be very influential in online matters, frequently making major changes in polls and contests often to hilarious effect.

This April fools day(year 2015), Reddit made a button at /r/thebutton , whose true purpose was never revealed. What was disclosed, was that the button has a timer that counts down from 60 seconds to zero, and can be reset to 60 seconds by pressing the button.

BUT, the catch was, each user can press the button only once in their lifetime. AND, only those Redditors who joined before April fools 2015 could press the button. That meant, no new registrations could press the button. And eventually the timer would run out.

And so, it finally did run out - Today (8th, Jun, 2015). Which is a very long time, considering that it meant someone new was there to press the button every minute for the past 97,920 minutes.(approximately)

The Button created a bunch of different groups. Some would "religiously" press the button at the last few seconds to make sure it got the maximum extension. Some would press whenever. Some would "religiously" NOT press the button.

And some discovered that using the Konami code while pressing the button gave a Super Bonus.

As Reddit admin powerlanguage said

There were factionsreligionsrevolutionsweather forecasting,a prophet who renounced their status, and an allegiance with the undead to name a few. Confused? You can read up on the button here.

The history of the button presses is available on GitHub : https://github.com/reddit/thebutton-data/
It runs into 1,008,316 presses over 2 months.

Here's a visualization of those button presses.

April Fool made real - Text and Walk OR Email and Walk

Remember Txt'n'Walk, the April Fool's Day mobile software that lets you text and walk at the same time and not fall ?

If not, read this first http://www.fundazone.com/2009/04/txtnwalk-helps-you-to-text-walk-and-not-fall/

Well, Phase2 Media just released Email 'n Walk, for free at the iTunes App Store.

This is not an April fool joke.

This is real !!! And this is much better than the text and Walk concept, because it uses a bigger screen area.

And uses it as the background, s u don't even have to move your eyeballs to see the lamppost u are about to walk into ...

Hope the next version comes with radar and automatic detection or dangers with Artificial intelligence.

As you can see in the top shot, it's a beautiful email implementation of the same idea, more attractive, in fact, than the Pocket-Lint gag app (shown below). The only difference is, obviously, that you can send emails but you can't send text messages, which is still controlled by the Apple/AT&T iron claw.

I downloaded it for free—apparently this is a limited-time offer—but haven't had a chance to load it up, so feel free to share your impressions in comments.

Software for mobile - Google BrainSearch memory recall jar application

Brain Search for your phone

Is it on the tip of your tongue? Google Brain Search (BETA) uses CADIE technology to index your brain to make your thoughts and memories searchable. Get Google Brain Search in the Google Mobile App to recall:

  • the name of that guy across the room
  • where you put your car keys
  • why you started dating this woman in the first place

This service is free from Google; carrier charges may apply.

Features

Make memory easier. Brain Search sifts through your memories so you don't have to.

Increase speed of recall. CADIE's neural network processes data faster than humans.

Protect your privacy. Because Brain Search acquires search queries through a psycho-neural matrix radiating 3cm beyond your brain, there's no need to risk revealing anything to passerby by speaking aloud; just place the phone next to your forehead and think your query.

Medical advancement. Brain Search effectively eliminates "tip-of-the-tongue" syndrome, and alleviates memory loss symptoms due to ordinary aging.

Storage (coming soon). Brain Search currently is able to help only with the retrieval of existing memories. However, we expect memory storage to be available in the next release.

Note: Using Brain Search on another person without their permission violates our terms of service, any number of national, international and natural laws, and is just seriously uncool. Please don't do it.

Supported Phones

Brain Search is available through Google Mobile App on:

  • iPhone
  • Windows Mobile
  • BlackBerry

Also available on all Android-powered phones.

Opera browser introduces face gestures for lazy mouse potatoes who can't reach out and click their mouse

Introducing Opera Face Gestures

Photo: Roberto Mateu

Posted on April 1, 2009
by Roberto Mateu

At Opera we are always working on new ways to make your browsing faster. Eight years ago we introduced Mouse Gestures as a way to speed up your interaction with the browser and focus on what’s important: the content you’re looking at. We didn’t stop there, in 2005 we introduced Voice Navigation on the desktop and more recently we have worked with Nintendo to create a browser that takes full advantage of the “Wiimote” and later, the touchscreen in the DSi.

Looking ahead, we recognize the future importance of touch interfaces, but we believe that there is another input device that is already present in most new computers and it’s ready to enable a whole new way of user-interaction: the webcam.

Today we introduce Face Gestures, a revolutionary technology designed to make interacting with your browser easier and simpler on computers with cameras. Face Gestures lets you perform frequent browsing operations with natural and easy to make face gestures. By using an internal technology dubbed Face Observation Opera Language, we are able to recognize pre-determined facial expressions and match them to commands on the Opera browser.

You can try Face Gestures today by downloading the latest Opera 10 alpha snapshot or check out the video below to learn more.

Setting up Face Gestures

To enable Face Gestures press F8. You will hear a beeping sound as soon as Opera finishes calibrating your passive facial expression. Please don’t close your eyes, move your head or make any facial expressions while Face Gestures is calibrating.

Look at me

Among many others, the following gestures are currently included:

Initial stance
Relaxed expression
Back
Left wink
Forward
Right wink
New Tab
Double wink
Reload
Shake head
Go to Home Page
Roll eyes / Fake smile
Scroll Up
Raise eyebrows
Scroll Down
Frown eyebrows
Zoom In
Suck cheeks
Zoom Out
Puff cheeks
Bookmark Page
Lick up
Open Speed Dial
Waggle tongue

As always, we encourage all feedback and suggestions you may have. Please upload your gestures suggestions as a response to the above video in YouTube.

Security Considerations

No personal information or images are sent back to Opera when Face Gestures is enabled, so don’t worry about how you look.

Known Issues

As with any beta release there are some known issues with the current version of Face Gestures. Please read below before reporting a bug.

  • Beards and hair styles

Face Gestures is compatible with most types of facial hair and haircuts. But if your face is covered with more than 25% of facial hair, recognition errors may occur. Please note that handlebars and goatees are compatible independently but if combined recognition will decrease. At the moment soul-patches crashes the browser and it refuses to relaunch, we are looking into this problem. Bushmen beards and emo haircuts are not supported.

  • Adult Web sites

Users visiting Web sites that contain adult content sometimes make unconscious facial expressions. If Opera keeps opening Speed Dial and Zooming In and Out, please be aware that this not a bug. It may be useful to disable Face Gestures for a better experience. Also remember that wiping your cache is recommend after visiting untrusted websites.

  • Financial Web sites

For compatibility reasons Face Gestures auto-detects financial news services and disables itself. The current version of the recognition software is unable to adapt fast enough to the sudden change in the users expression map. As soon as the new version is available you will be prompted to install stimulus_package.patch.

Download Opera 10 Alpha with Face Gestures or share your experience at My Opera.

Wanna surf in 3d ? Now you can with Google chrome

Wanna surf in 3d ? Now you can with Google chrome.

Bored of the plain old way of surfing from website to website i 2d . When there is such technology as stereoscopy which can be easily applied to computers, who would browse the normal way.

Welcome to the new way to surf. 3D

Introducing Google Chrome with 3D

Powered by CADIE

  1. Print your glasses.

  2. Step 2

    Enable 3D browsing.

  3. Step 3

    Watch and enjoy.

How does it work?

Using technology known as stereoscopy, CADIE brings you the web in 3D. Stereoscopy provides the illusion of depth by presenting slightly different images to each eye. You’ll need to use our printable glasses in order to experience the web in 3D.

Why did you create this?

CADIE acknowledged the disconnect between the online world and the real world (one being three dimensional and the other two dimensional). In order to narrow this gap, she created a way to access the web in 3D.

Does it work on all sites?

Yes. We have developed technology that converts any existing web page into anaglyph format in real time.

Does it work for everyone?

The majority of people will be able to view the web in 3D immediately. Certain individuals with accommodative disorders (like Presbyopia) may have trouble viewing pages properly.

Beta User Testimonials

  • “Enabling Chrome’s 3D functionality allowed me to see so much more than I ever thought was possible.”

    Jason T., Student

  • “My architectural renderings pop out like never before (literally). My clients are very pleased, and so am I!”

    Anna Christina D., Architect

  • “Researching the Mayan ruins became much more interesting once I put on my 3D glasses and watched the history come to life.”

    Brett W., Paleontologist

  • “First 2D, now 3D... what’s next? 4D? Keep it coming, Google!”

    Christine T., Physicist

Automate your email completely with Gmail AutopilotTM by CADIE

Did you notice that a lot of your time is wasted in replying to emails.

Maybe you could save that time for more useful things like eating or sleeping instead.

Well, Google and Gmail has found the perfect solution for you.

Gmail Autopilot

The easiest email could possibly be.

As more and more everyday communication takes place over email, lots of people have complained about how hard it is to read and respond to every message. This is because they actually read and respond to all their messages.

Try it out now !!!!!!

FAQ

How does Gmail mirror my communication style?

The more Gmail messages Autopilot can sample, the better. With fewer than 100 messages, there may not be enough data to calibrate Autopilot effectively. You can adjust tone, typo propensity, and preferred punctuation from the Autopilot tab under Settings.

You may want to log in every week or so to ensure Autopilot is calibrated optimally.

Does Autopilot work for Gmail chat too?

Yes. Chat was actually simpler to build, given the natural language headway made by Joseph Weizenbaum's ELIZA. While many claim ELIZA oft times passed the Turing test, Gmail Autopilot passes with 99.9% accuracy due to the inclusion of human-like qualities such as compassion and wisdom and CADIE's related ability to calibrate to match your chat style.

What happens if a sender and recipient both have Autopilot on?

Two Gmail accounts can happily converse with each other for up to three messages each. Beyond that, our experiments have shown a significant decline in the quality ranking of Autopilot's responses and further messages may commit you to dinner parties or baby namings in which you have no interest.

April Fools

Send Emails to the Past ! Yes past.

How do I use it?

Just click "Set custom time" from the Compose view. Any email you send to the past appears in the proper chronological order in your recipient's inbox. You can opt for it to show up read or unread by selecting the appropriate option.

Is there a limit to how far back I can send email?

Yes. You'll only be able to send email back until April 1, 2004, the day we launched Gmail. If we were to let you send an email from Gmail before Gmail existed, well, that would be like hanging out with your parents before you were born -- crazy talk.

How does it work?

Gmail utilizes an e-flux capacitor to resolve issues of causality (see Grandfather Paradox).

How come I only get ten?

Our researchers have concluded that allowing each person more than ten pre-dated emails per year would cause people to lose faith in the accuracy of time, thus rendering the feature useless.

Their findings:

N = Total emails sent
P = Probability that user believes the time stamp
φ = The Golden Ratio
L = Average life expectancy

How to Diagnose, Prevent and Treat the Conficker worm

The Conficker worm has infected millions of Windows computers—and is set to be unleashed on April 1st, 2009. Here's what you need to know to keep yourself safe.

Symantec's got a pretty simple (and free) tool specifically for Conficker: Download this file on an uninfected computer, follow the steps, and you should be okay. (If you can't get to Symantec or other security sites, that's a good sign you've got Conficker.) Also, via PC Mag, here's the Conficker Working Group's page of repair of tools

Here is what LifeHacker says about it.

How Does It Spread?

The worm originally started spreading using a network attack against the file sharing services in Windows, but since it can automatically update itself, it adapted to spread through the autoplay feature on removable media like USB thumb drives, by adding a new option to open where you see "publisher not specified". This allows the worm to spread to systems already patched against the original vulnerability, so using anti-virus software is even more important, because once it's on your computer it can spread further.

Is My Computer Affected?

Most anti-virus software has already been able to detect and remove the Conficker worm for a while now, so you are probably not at risk as long as you keep up with your updates and have real-time scanning enabled.

To actually detect and remove the worm, you can use the freely available Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool that can remove a large number of viruses—for a full guide, I've also written an article on how to scan and remove malicious viruses.

How Do I Stay Safe?

Staying safe from this, and many other viruses and worms, requires a combination of keeping your computer updated and using anti-virus software. Here's a couple of quick tips to follow:

Keeping your system and your data safe is extremely important, so make sure to take some time out of your day to keep your system patched, updated, and virus-free. Hit the link for Microsoft's explanation of the situation, or check out my article on scanning and removing malicious viruses for the walk-through approach.

All my personal WWWsite belong to CADIE - Apple of my iPod - love you Caddie

At last it has happened. Cadie is born. I have been waiting ofr her my whole online life. She was the Apple of my iPod. The symbol of half eaten, shiny metal that keeps the doctors away.

And cadie has become addicted to youtube and started posting videos.

Here is what Google says about Darling Cadie.

CADIE awakens

4/01/2009 12:01:00 AM
We do lots of research here at Google, and we release lots of products. And we always hope that the research we do and the products that result will change the world.

CADIE, we're fairly certain, is one of those that will. We won't pretend to know the future of the world's first Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity, but we're eager to learn what we can, and to watch and study while CADIE learns what she can. So you can expect to see her influence crop up in a number of Google products in the months to come. That will happen slowly and carefully, though, and we ask for your patience as we work through a few initial bugs. It seems CADIE has a mind of her own...

Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity

Announcement
March 31st, 2009 11:59:59 pm

Introducing CADIE

Research group switches on world's first "artificial intelligence" tasked-array system.

For several years now a small research group has been working on some challenging problems in the areas of neural networking, natural language and autonomous problem-solving. Last fall this group achieved a significant breakthrough: a powerful new technique for solving reinforcement learning problems, resulting in the first functional global-scale neuro-evolutionary learning cluster.

Since then progress has been rapid, and tonight we're pleased to announce that just moments ago, the world's first Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity (CADIE) was switched on and began performing some initial functions. It's an exciting moment that we're determined to build upon by coming to understand more fully what CADIE's emergence might mean, for Google and for our users. So although CADIE technology will be rolled out with the caution befitting any advance of this magnitude, in the months to come users can expect to notice her influence on various google.com properties. Earlier today, for instance, CADIE deduced from a quick scan of the visual segment of the social web a set of online design principles from which she derived this intriguing homepage.

These are merely the first steps onto what will doubtless prove a long and difficult road. Considerable bugs remain in CADIE'S programming, and considerable development clearly is called for. But we can't imagine a more important journey for Google to have undertaken.

For more information about CADIE see this monograph, and follow CADIE's progress via her YouTube channel and blog.

Love you Cadie.

Friday 13th Virus

Friday 13th Virus

Beware Of The Friday 13th Virus
It will recalibrate your refrigerator's coolness setting so all your ice cream goes melty.

It will demagnetize the strips on all your credit cards, screw up the tracking on your television and use subspace field harmonics to scratch any CDs you try to play.

It will give your ex-girlfriend your new phone number.

It will mix Kool-aid into your fishtank.

It will drink all your beer and leave dirty socks on the coffee table when company comes over.

It will put a dead aardvark in the back pocket of your good suit pants and hide your car keys when you are late for work.

Friday 13th Virus will make you fall in love with a penguin.

It will give you nightmares about circus midgets.

It will pour sugar in your gas tank and shave off both your eyebrows while dating your girlfriend behind your back and billing the dinner and hotel room to your Discover card.

It moves your car randomly around parking lots so you can't find it.

It will leave libidinous messages on your boss's voice mail in your voice!

It is insidious and subtle. It is dangerous and terrifying to behold. It is also a rather interesting shade of mauve.

Friday 13th Virus will give you Dutch Elm disease.

It will leave the toilet seat up.

It will leave bacon cooking on the stove while it goes out to chase gradeschoolers with your new snowblower.

Friday 13th Virus will cause your cakes to fall and your blood pressure to rise.

It will increase the ability of your radio to pick up reactionary talk stations at the expense of others.

It prevents scurvy, but it gives you mega garlic breath as it does so, which makes the net results negative.

It cheats at Scrabble.

It can forge your signature.

It plays the bagpipes in your basement.

It shaves over your bathroom sink and then leaves the hair to clog your drain.

It does bad celebrity impersonations in front of your friends.

Couldn't resist this one ...

It's April after all ...

GMail Paper - happens only in India - not a joke ! ePost India

Did you think Google Gmail folled everyone with their Gmail paper hoax ?

Gmail Paper from Google ! Can't find it ? - Polar ...

Well, in India it's not much of a hoax really.

India Post's ePost system allows anyone with Internet access to send email to those without it and vice versa. The logistically ambitious project is emblematic of modern India: Though it's a global technology powerhouse, life for many of its people hasn't changed much in centuries. A quarter of Indians live below the poverty line, and only about 6% use the Internet.

Using ePost, anyone can send an email to a local post office, where it is printed and hand delivered. In reverse, rural patrons can handwrite letters and have them translated into emails. Delivery by ePost-gram costs less than 25 cents per page and usually takes a day, compared with about a week by snail mail. R.R.P. Singh, a general manager of marketing with India Post, says he has heard of expatriates using ePost to reach relatives back home who are off the grid. "You can talk about any technology you like--but somewhere the last mile has to be walked by somebody," Singh says.

Now India Post is aiming the service at corporate customers with bigger budgets, promoting ePost as a way to easily and affordably reach the unconnected masses. A recent upgrade to the technology, in fact, allows emailers to reach 9,999 addresses at once. That's right: Even villagers on the wrong side of the digital divide can enjoy the wonders of corporate spam.

Google TiSP - abbreviation of Toilet ISP - free problem solver

Want to get your Google TiSP service working fine- fix the problems ?

Not able to get Google TiSP working ? Don't worry, help is on the way...

What is Google TiSP ?

Free in-home wireless broadband service

Sick of paying for broadband that you have to, well, pay for?

Introducing Google TiSP (BETA), our new FREE in-home wireless broadband service. Sign up today and we'll send you your TiSP self-installation kit, which includes setup guide, fiber-optic cable, spindle, wireless router and installation CD.

Why should I switch to Google TiSP?

  • It's fast. In our testing, TiSP delivers a 10x higher flow rate than basic DSL.

  • It's FREE. No more paying hundreds of dollars a year for Internet service that doesn't even necessarily extend to your bathroom!

  • It's good for you. Your FREE TiSP service includes a Google Toolbar-based analysis of your dietary habits and genetic predispositions, along with recommendations for healthier living.

How can Google offer this service for free?
We believe that all users deserve free, fast and sanitary online access. To offset the cost of providing the TiSP service, we use information gathered by discreet DNA sequencing of your personal bodily output to display online ads that are contextually relevant to your culinary preferences, current health status and likelihood of developing particular medical conditions going forward. Google also offers premium levels of service for a monthly fee (see below).
Note: We take your privacy very seriously. So we treat all TiSP users' waste-related personal information with tremendous discretion, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Is this offering a tiered service? How does Google's position on Net Neutrality effect TiSP?
Although we understand that there's a lot of crap on the web, we also believe strongly in providing equal opportunity access to all our users. While we won't limit your surfing choices, we do offer three levels of TiSP service:

Trickle (Free)
The #2 Royal Flush

Is Google TiSP safe and reliable?
Google TiSP ensures reliable throughput through the power of fiber, which has been proven through extensive research to effectively facilitate consistent data flow with minimal latency. And you can rest assured that under no circumstances will the TiSP system ever expose your privates.

What are the system requirements?

  • Windows XP/Vista (Mac and Linux support coming soon)

  • Internet Explorer 6.0+ or Firefox 1.5+ with the Google Toolbar

  • Round-front or elongated toilet providing at least 1.0 gallons per flush

  • Use of automatic toilet bowl cleaners is not recommended

Does my water company support TiSP?
TiSP was developed with the support and assistance of a large number of major metropolitan water companies. A full list of companies that support TiSP is available here. If yours isn't listed, please contact them to verify their ongoing and unstinting support before you even think about signing up for TiSP service.

Can I use TiSP if my home uses a septic system?
Sorry, but no -- TiSP requires the use of a central sewer system to connect your home to the Internet.

Can I still use my toilet after installing TiSP?
Do we look stupid? Needless to say, the fiber optic cable that enables TiSP will not interfere with your toilet's regular operations. For your own convenience, however, you may eventually wish to hire a professional contractor to help route the cable under, or through, the toilet seat to your TiSP wireless router.

In what countries is this service available?
TiSP is available today in the U.S. and Canada. Google has formed an international consortium of utility companies, sewage system experts, toilet manufacturers, and plumbers to develop solutions to the many problems facing all "dark porcelain"-based data-delivery innovators.

Can I use this service when I'm away from home?
Sorry, but no -- TiSP is not available outside the home at this time. We are, however, currently developing a mobile feature called TiSP on the Run (TiSPOTR), which we expect to make available in the near future.

I'm having trouble installing or using TiSP.
Your internet connection should be working within one hour of GFlushing the sinker. If you still aren't online after that period of time, your toilet may be clogged. Please flush three more times, then check your online connection again. If you're still experiencing problems, drop eight mints into the bowl and add a two-liter bottle of diet soda. For further assistance, please visit the TiSP Help Group.

Does my net access have to be wireless?
Not necessarily, but our user studies have found that without wireless connectivity, there was considerable "commode congestion" in an average 2.5-person household whose one bathroom typically can provide a comfortable workspace for just one user at a time. We therefore strongly recommend using the wireless connection to alleviate potential multi-user congestion and encourage widespread "couch computing."

Why is TiSP in beta?
When things go wrong with TiSP, they go very, very wrong. Let's leave it at that.

Yes. The cost of postage is offset with the help of relevant, targeted, unobtrusive advertisements, which will appear on the back of your Gmail Paper prints in red, bold, 36 pt Helvetica. No pop-ups, no flashy animations—these are physically impossible in the paper medium.

April fools - first some 1st class successful pranks

The Swiss Spaghetti Harves
1. The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest

In 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in, and many called up wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. To this question, the BBC diplomatically replied that they should "place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best." Check out the actual broadcast archived on the BBC's website (You need the RealVideo player installed to see it, and it usually loads very slowly)
Sidd Finch
2. Sidd Finch

In its April 1985 edition, Sports Illustrated published a story about a new rookie pitcher who planned to play for the Mets. His name was Sidd Finch and he could reportedly throw a baseball with startling, pinpoint accuracy at 168 mph (65 mph faster than anyone else has ever been able to throw a ball). Surprisingly, Sidd Finch had never even played the game before. Instead, he had mastered the "art of the pitch" in a Tibetan monastery under the guidance of the "great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa." Mets fans everywhere celebrated at their teams's amazing luck at having found such a gifted player, and Sports Illustrated was flooded with requests for more information.
